Initial Thoughts when Roe v Wade was Overturned
I see everyone is already firing off the info graphics on their ig stories. The truth is there is not much more that I can say that I haven't already said or someone actually relevant has already said. Overturning Roe v Wade was the first of many unspeakably horrible things this SCOTUS has done. Only the first. In the past couple days SCOTUS has forced the state of Maine to subsidize students going to religious private schools, stripped away our right to sue a police officer for not stating our Miranda rights, took always the states' right to regulate firearms in the way their elected legislators see fit. The worst is yet to come, God knows what human rights are now in question. We already know same sex marriage, contraceptives, and things of those nature are already on the chopping block for these federalist filth.
But make no mistake, the court has always been filled with reactionary subhuman filth and in the last 60 years we have given them way too much power. And because of this, more crucial rights are in danger. If Roe v Wade can be overturned after being considered settled law, then what's protecting Lemon v. Kurtzman? Brown v. Board of Education? If we are interpreting the constitution as it was written, who's to say any right granted by an amendment is safe?
And so how do we fix this? How do we fight back? We have already voted, the "good guys" (they're not that good) already hold the entire congress and the presidency, and yet we have nothing to show for it. The dems aren't even interested in protecting basic human rights. So no, "vote harder" isn't the answer. The answer is organizing. Organize in your workplaces, your schools, your communities. We have to make it known that we will not stand for this. Rights are not something we are granted, they're something we need to take for ourselves.
